Internal Medicine

It performs outpatient assistance to patients with glomerulopathies, tubulopathies, nephrolithiasis and urinary tract infection, acute and chronic renal failure and other progressive renal diseases.

Gastroenterology

It provides clinical care to patients with diseases of the digestive tract in general. It also provides diagnosis and specialized treatment in inflammatory bowel diseases, digestive form of Chagas disease, chronic non-viral and viral hepatitis (State Reference Center for Hepatitis C), hepatocarcinoma, polycystic hydatid disease, pre and post liver transplantation, pancreatic diseases, Esophageal and anorectal Manometry, Esophageal impedance and Esophageal pH monitoring. Functional study of swallowing, esophageal transit, gastric emptying and transit through the small intestine by scintigraphic, Respiratory test for Helicobacter pylori, d-xylose test, determination of 5-HIAA and quantitative determination of fecal excretion of fats.

Nephrology

The Nephrology of the Department of Internal Medicine is responsible for the hemodialysis service of HCFMRP-USP, for peritoneal dialysis treatment, including chronic peritoneal dialysis, clinical nephrology ward with nine beds, as well as beds for dialysis of patients with acute renal failure. In addition, it performs outpatient assistance to patients with glomerulopathies, tubulopathies, nephrolithiasis and urinary tract infection, acute and chronic renal failure and other progressive renal diseases. The care of patients with high blood pressure is done in partnership with the Department of Cardiology and the care of patients with renal transplantation in partnership with the Urology Department of the Department of Surgery and Anatomy. It has the following sub-specialties: The Unit of Infectious and Tropical Diseases is composed of five professors from the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto – USP, ten assistant physicians from the General Hospital and support staff. It is responsible for Infectious Disease Outpatient (General), Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, Occupational Accidents in Health Professionals and Hepatitis. It also oversees the Infectious Diseases Ward (20 beds) and the AIDS Unit with 16 beds and the day hospital and coordinates the Hospital’s Microbiology and Serology Labs. It acts in five disciplines of the undergraduate course in Medicine and maintains a Medical Residency Program in Infectology (5 vacancies/year). Professors are supervisors in Graduate Programs that aim to train professors and researchers for higher education, having as main lines of research: hepatitis, AIDS, occupational accidents, fungal infections, dengue fever,hantavirosis and other viruses, tuberculosis, microbiology and hospital infection and serodiagnosis.

Dermatology

The Dermatology Department provides services to the Community, centralized in Medical Assistance (15-20 thousand patients/year), followed by the respective procedures. In the Laboratory of Dermatology, the measurements of urinary porphyrins and plasma and the quantification of the anti-PGL-1 antibody are performed, both for clarification of dermatoses. Allied to this activity, we highlight the undergraduate teaching program (4th and 5th year of the Medical Sciences Course – FMRP-USP); Medical Residency (R3 and R4), and also research activities in the areas of immunodermatology, molecular biology, phototherapy and wound healing. Head and Neck Surgery Service

The Department of Head and Neck Surgery provides care to about 10,000 patients/year with neoplastic, non-neoplastic and traumatic disorders of the face and neck. It has specific outpatient for surgical pathologies of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, laryngology and prevention of laryngeal cancer, stomatology and prevention of oral cancer, and salivary glands outpatient and skin lesions of the face. It develops activities of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, performed at the USP Campus and at the Emergency Care Unit (face and neck trauma). The Service is an acclaimed reference center in the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer and is responsible for performing approximately 2000 surgical procedures per year, in addition to endoscopic diagnostic procedures such as nasofibroscopy, videolaryngoscopy, swallowing test, suspension laryngoscopy, bronchoscopies, esophagoscopies and others. It also provides multiprofessional care with speech therapists, dentists, psychologists and specialized nursing. The Service has a staff of 14 head and neck surgeons, physicians in rotating stages of the general surgery and otorhinolaryngology areas, and permanent residents of Head and Neck Surgery (R3 and R4), whose program lasts two years. It also relies on residents of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery.

The operation of these services and the development of teaching and research activities are associated with the research projects of the Department of Genetics of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto – USP. Ophthalmology Service

The Ophthalmology service, linked to the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto-USP, provides assistance in sub-specialties, including: retinal and vitreous surgery, glaucoma, cataract, eyelids, orbit and tear ducts, strabismus, corneal transplantation and external ocular diseases.
In addition, it has the main semiologic resources required to care for patients with visual problems, such as: fluoresceinography, computerized campimetry, electrophysiology and subnormal vision.
The Department also offers multidisciplinary services involving Head and Neck Surgery, Neurosurgery and Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery. It also provides an Eye Bank with the headquarters in the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.

Otorhinolaryngology Service

Otorhinolaryngology, linked to the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto-USP, promotes medical assistance to SUS (Unified Health System) with several outpatient clinics: Otology; Pediatric Otology; Rhinology; Snoring and Sleep Apnea and Pharyngology; Deafness, Otoneurology.

Hospital-Day
The HCFMRP-USP has a center that provides Mental Health assistance to the community through the Day-Hospital system. The activities of individual care, group psychotherapy, community meetings, physical and recreational activities, occupational therapy, family reunions and care for the graduates are carried out. It was established in 1961, and also functions as a teaching and research with emphasis on staff training, training of residents in Psychiatry and professionals from various areas working in Mental Health.
